Direct Support Staff

We welcome you and your skills and talents on our team. In this position, you will provide direct service and support to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities participating in our Weekend Respite program. Weekend Respite is two weekends per month, Friday evening to Saturday afternoon at our respite house in partnership with The Harris Center. 

Duties:

In coordination with the supervisor, you will provide quality support to individuals served by developing a rapport with the individuals and families with which you are working.

Represent The Arc of Harris County in a professional manner with participants, families, and the community.

Supervise designated participants and actively participate in the programs.

Assist with ensuring inclusion of participants while participating in activities.

Safely drive vehicles with up to 15 passengers to and from activities when required.

Other duties as assigned by Director of Programs and on-site supervisor.

Qualifications:

Professional or volunteer experience working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Ability to obtain CPR certification.

Ability to bend, stoop, carry, and lift light to moderate items and potentially assist participants with wheelchair transfers.

Valid driver’s license with clean driving record and proof of liability insurance.

Ability to pass a background check.

Bilingual is a plus.

U.S. work authorization required.

Schedule:

Two overnight weekends (Friday-Sunday) a month

Experience:

Caregiving 1 year (Preferred)

Compensation:

$500 per weekend
